What is PQRS

medical-chart.jpgThe Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) is part of the Tax Relief and Healthcare Act of 2006. This voluntary pay-for-reporting program offers a financial incentive to physicians and other eligible professionals who successfully report quality measures related to services provided under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

Who is eligible to participate?

Eligible Providers include physicians and other medical professionals (e.g., physician assistants, nurse practitioners, chiropractors, physical therapists) who provide services paid under or are based on the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

What must be reported to participate?

To be eligible for the incentive payment you must report to the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on three of the 153 quality measures related to the provider’s specialty.

What are the financial incentives for participation?

Providers who successfully report will be eligible for a bonus payment of up to 2.0 percent of the total Medicare Physician Fee Schedule allowed charges for services provided during the reporting period.

Who can submit on my behalf?

Central Utah Clinic, LLC, along with 73 other registries can submit quality measures on your behalf. For a complete list visit: www.cms.hhs.gov/PQRI/Downloads/PQRIQualifiedRegistries.pdf

What is the purpose of PQRS?

PQRS is a first step toward linking Medicare health professionals’ payments to quality, which is consistent with Medicare’s ongoing transformation from passive payer to active purchaser of high-value healthcare.
