A Qualified Clinical Data Registry since 2009

What Is MIPS?

Merit-based Incentive Payment System - MIPS. As a physician, your focus is—and should be—on your patients and achieving optimal healthcare results. MIPS is a program that determines Medicare payment adjustment to providers—MIPS. The Merit-based Incentive Payment System uses a composite performance score to determine if eligible physicians will receive a payment bonus, a payment penalty, or no payment adjustments. The four components of MIPS include: Quality, Cost, Promoting Interoperability (PI), and Improvement Activities.

Payment models are shifting from fee-for-service to value-based reimbursement. The results might not have had a significant impact on your practice. But this is changing, as “traditional” MIPS will conclude in 2023; and significant changes are on the horizon, including increases in the payment penalty for physicians.

Central Utah informatics wants to support physicians along each step of this process through education and by building awareness of the changes that could impact your practice—and how to navigate these changes.
